My Birthday + Self-Care Is… Loving My Age

It’s my birthday and I‘m amazed at my journey thus far! As I turn 40 this month (April 24th), I’ve been reflecting on my life and the many blessings that I have experienced.

This past week I commenced a fast from food and unplugged from Instagram in an effort to gain more clarity around my gifts and my next chapter. It was wonderful and I encourage you to do the same if you feel led to and want to gain clarity around anything in your life.

This is my physical New Year and I’m completely embracing where I am in life and loving my age!

The bullet points below pretty much describe my current mindset.

I Have Wisdom To Share

For the past few years, I’ve found myself holding space for others and giving advice when it’s welcomed. It’s always a cool feeling to share my stories with others and see the relief on their face when they realize they’re not alone and understand that things do get better on the other side of hope.

I’m also learning how to read the energy of a person before giving unsolicited advice…which allows me to know when and when not to give advice. Everyone is not open to our advice and we have to be ok with that, don’t take it personal.

You know, that’s what this website is for...information, advice and inspiration. If people want it, they will find it here or ask for my advice directly.

If this resonates with you, I encourage you to:

  • Listen to your intuition before giving advice to those you love, just hold space for them by being open when they’re ready.

  • If you feel compelled to, pray for their clarity on whatever answers they’re seeking.

  • Never get upset, or feel resentment toward them if they’re not open to your advice…it’s ok, it’s their journey. If necessary, God will speak to them through you or someone else, again don’t take it personal.

I am resilient…currently thriving

The past few years I’ve been a hermit, not getting out and socializing like normal. I’ve asked myself several times why and I would always hear “I’m preparing you”. Preparing to me meant reflecting on the past, healing and learning from the lessons…and that’s what I did.

Sometimes we need healing and don’t realize it because there’s so much that goes on within our subconscious mind that we aren’t aware of. For me, during this time I needed to heal from my past mistakes and heartbreaks. Learn the lessons and get out of my own way so that I could live my best life.

It was important that I shifted my mindset and reprogrammed it to learn how to show up differently in the world. With that shift, I chose to be a wise, resilient and confident woman!

Right now, I’m single, divorced, no children and travel the world! Some would say that my singleness is the best time to commune with God and love on myself completely. I agree, these days my spirituality and my relationship with God is number one. Talking to Him, journaling about life, reading and fortifying my mind is a daily practice.

Do you want to know yourself on a deeper level and thrive? Relaxing and enjoying your own company in a quiet space is a great start. Here are some tips:

  • Unplug, turn off your devices and take some time to journal and reflect on your amazing life - what have you’ve learned from your experiences.

  • Meditate to clear your mind from the day, breathwork releases any tension in your body. Yoga can also relax your body, my favorite is the Sun Salutation sequence.

  • Write down who you are. If you don’t know journal about who you want to be. Writing and seeing it on paper helps your mind catch up to your written words. fascinating!

  • Ask God (universe, spirit, intuition) to reveal any blocks that you’re knowingly or unknowingly dealing with. Then take it a step further, ask how and actively seek out ways to clear them. Sometimes I ask questions before bed and when I wake up the answers or at least the next steps are revealed. Blocks can cause fear and self-doubt, once these blocks are cleared, we become fearless and confident in all areas of our lives.

I feel amazing…I know my value

My spirits are high and I’m in a constant state of gratitude. Loving on myself through a variety of self-care practices, eating high vibrational food, knowing my value as a woman and being spiritually attuned is definitely the reason for this clarity and feeling of bliss.

When our minds are clear, we’re able to show up as the best version of ourselves. Showing up is sharing our gifts and serving others, holding space for our loved ones and reaching our personal goals.

I encourage you to:

  • Take your self-care practice to the next level - set time aside to focus on you.

  • Eat a healthier diet - practice 80/20, eat at least 80% clean and go from there.

  • Take your spiritual practice to the next level - meditate, journal, read, go to church (physically or online), whatever resonates with you.

  • Build a community with like minded people and support each other.

  • Share your gifts - you are more valuable than you think.

  • Nightly, ask yourself “What’s the best thing that happened to me today?”.

I’m excited about my next chapter

I’m excited about the doors that are opening up for me. Including the opportunity to write, speak my truth and share my experiences…my story in ways I never dreamed of! I feel reignited with clarity around my work.

At some point we have to stand for something, fight for something, excel in our talents, share our gifts and wisdom with the world. Pretty will get you in the door, but substance will get you a seat at the table.

There is a quote by fashion icon Iris Apfel where speaks on how we should strive to be women of substance because eventually we can’t just get by on our “pretty”.

“I never felt pretty. I don’t feel pretty now. I’m not a pretty person. I don’t like pretty. So I don’t feel badly. And I think it worked out well, because I found that all the girls I know who got by on their looks, as time went on and they faded, they were nothing. And they were very disappointed. When you’re somebody like myself, in order to get around and be attractive, you have to develop something, you have to learn something, you have to do something. So you become a bit more interesting.” ~ Iris Apfel

I encourage you to:

  • Ask yourself what do you want to be known for - what can you talk about for hours? What do you find yourself doing with ease? What do your friends or family come to you for…what area of advice do you give them?

  • Do you get passionate about current events? Politics? Entertainment? International affairs? Movements?

  • Women empowerment? Bringing awareness to issues effecting women?

  • Mental Illness, Depression, Health Issues, Wellness

I hope this post has inspired you to love on yourself a little bit more! Let me know in the comments below or talk to me on Instagram under this post:
